1. To find out more about the German university system, go to the official web page of the German Academic Exchange Service, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD. (http://www.daad.de/). In German, English, and Spanish. There is also an American site, DAAD New York (http://www.daad.org/).

2. Most major search engines offer the web addresses of German universities so you can get an impression of the school. Click on the category with "Bildung" in the title to get started. You might begin with this list of German "Hochschulen" (http://www.holderied.de/DeutscheHochschulen.html), a link from Felix Holderied's home page. Felix Holeried is at the Institut für Rechnerentwurf und Fehlertoleranz. See if you can find a university where you would like to study. Many sites are in German and English.

3. For more information on the complexities of the BAföG, go to the site of the Studentenwerk Oldenburg (http://www.studentenwerk-oldenburg.de/bafoeg/index..html). For general information about the Services of the Studentenwerk Oldenburg use this address (http://www.studentenwerk-oldenburg.de/allgemein/index.html). Das Schulsystem in Deutschland

1. Many schools in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have pages on the web. At SchulWeb Deutschland (http://www.schulweb.de/) you can choose a school type, country, and city and then visit that school. The web sites contain issues of the school paper, reports on school projects, and much more. There are also links to home pages for schools throughout the world and a good computer language glossary. Albert-Schweitzer-Schule in Kassel, Hessen. (http://www.ass.schulnetz.hamm.de). In German and English..
The Dömitz Gymnasium (http://home.t-online.de/home/gymnasium_doemitz/) has a home page gallery for its students and home pages in German, French, and English.
If you want to visit a different school type, you might click on Das Technische Gymnasium Rottweil (http://www.tg-rottweil.de/). Take a trip on the Donau, and see how you can apply to the school. Many school pages are in German and English.

Ausländische Studenten

1. Find out more about the activities and experiences of foreign students in Germany at the home page of the Chemnitz multikulturelle Studentengemeinschaft, MUKU TU Chemnitz (http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/muku/). Click on "Album" and see pictures of student activities. Links provide information about studying in Chemnitz (Akademisches Auslandsamt) as well as other student organizations and support groups. 2. Are you interested in studying in Austria? The Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science, and Culture Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur (http://www.bmbwk.gv.at/start.asp) maintains a page with information on studying in Austria (http://www.bmbwk.gv.at/start.asp?bereich=7&l1;=1028). 3. Click on "related links" on DAAD's home page (http://www.daad.org/), and you'll find a list of organizations that support educational exchange programs with Germany.

Schule, Hochschule, Klasse, Student

1. Scan DAAD's English information (http://www.daad.de/deutschland/en/) about universities and degree programs. Then click on the German version to get a feel for how educational terminology differs in German.

Fernsehen

1. The major German television networks have home pages with information about their programs and much more. Here are three addresses to get you started: the home page of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Fernsehanstalten (http://www.das-erste.de/), in German; the home page for RTL (http://www.rtl.de/) in German; and the home page of the Swiss Ministry for Communication, Bundesamt für Kommunikation (http://www.bakom.ch/de/radio_tv/allgemeines/index.html) in German, English, French, and Italian.

2. Many television series are international. Use a major search engine and look for the home pages for popular programs in German. The Simpsons, Xena, and Baywatch are all broadcast in Germany.
