National Education Goals Panel
The National Education Goals Panel is an independent executive branch
agency of the federal government charged with monitoring national and
state progress toward the National Education Goals. Under the
legislation, the Panel is charged with a variety of responsibilities to
support system-wide reform, including the following:
* Reporting on national and state progress toward the Goals over a
10-year period
* Working to establish a system of high academic standards and
assessments
* Identifying actions for federal, state, and local governments to
take and
* Building a nationwide, bipartisan consensus to achieve the
Goals
National Institute on the Education of At-Risk Students
The National Institute on the Education of At-Risk Students (At-Risk
Institute) is one of five Institutes created by the Educational
Research, Development, Dissemination and Improvement Act of 1994. These
Institutes are located within the Office of Educational Research and
Improvement at the U.S. Department of Education.
The At-Risk Institute supports a range of research and development
activities designed to improve the education of students at risk of
educational failure because of limited English proficiency, poverty,
race, geographic location, or economic disadvantage.
National Center for Educational Statistics
NCES is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data
that are related to education in the United States and other
nations.
