Networking:
Don’t be shy about using your network of friends, family, family friends, and even acquaintances, when looking for a job. Everyone has been where you are, and most people are happy to help. Other sources for networking (or ways of expanding your network) include:
- Professional associations
- Campus associations - faculty, alumni, fellow students, etc.
- Other groups in which you are a member
- Volunteer groups (United Way and other politically advantageous organizations)
- Political groups
- Personal connections
Other Sources of Job Information:
Don’t rely strictly on your campus Career Center to find a job. Although they can be helpful, generally they are not going to help all, or even most, students find jobs. Other basic sources are:
- Classifieds: Both the local paper and other cities you’re interested in. Subscribe to their Sunday papers.
- The Internet:
http://www.hotresume.com/joblinksall.html
www.headhunter.net
- Career Centers on other campuses (share with students you know who attend other schools)
- Ask - Call companies where you have an interest, or look up their websites on the internet to see if they have information on employment.
